Islamabad: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has achieved a historic milestone by successfully performing its first-ever fully robotic surgery, setting a new benchmark in the country’s public healthcare sector. With the use of the advanced Toumai Robotic Surgical System, Islamabad’s largest government hospital has now joined the ranks of Pakistan’s few medical institutions utilizing cutting-edge robotic technology.

The state-of-the-art system offers high-definition 3D visualization, exceptional precision through minimally invasive incisions, and a highly stable four-arm robotic mechanism, significantly enhancing surgical accuracy and patient safety. According to Dr. Mateen Sharif, head of the robotic surgery team, robotic surgery represents the future of medical treatment, and its introduction at PIMS marks a major advancement for Pakistan.

Dr. Sharif noted that with modern Chinese robotic technology, even the most complex procedures can now be performed with greater safety and precision. PIMS also plans to expand this robotic surgery facility to other public hospitals in the near future. Experts believe that the adoption of this technology will align Pakistan’s surgical care with global standards, ultimately benefiting thousands of patients across the country.
