Balochistan High Court Suspends Cabinet Decision on Magistrate Powers

Quetta: The Balochistan High Court conducted an important hearing on the petition filed regarding gas billing and overcharging issues. A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Kamran Khan Mulakhail and Justice Ayub Khan Tareen heard the gas billing case, during which the OGRA Chairman and senior officials of the Sui Gas Company appeared before the court and submitted their report.

During the hearing, the petitioner, Advocate Syed Nazeer Agha, informed the court that the Sui Gas Company had repeatedly violated the High Court’s June 23, 2024 order, and had issued gas bills of thousands to hundreds of thousands of rupees to consumers in October. Hearing this, Chief Justice Kamran Khan Mulakhail expressed strong displeasure and strictly directed OGRA and the gas company to ensure immediate compliance with the court order.

The court declared the submitted report of OGRA and the gas company unsatisfactory and returned it, ordering that a comprehensive report—in full compliance with the June 23, 2024 order—be submitted on the next hearing scheduled for December 11, 2025.

During the proceedings, the billing in-charge of the gas company, Muhammad Imran, assured the court that all bills containing additional charges issued in October would be corrected and overcharges would be removed.

The next hearing will take place on December 11, 2025.
