Qaseem Shah, News Desk:

Quetta: Two back-to-back explosions shook Quetta’s Qambrani Road late Monday, targeting a police checkpoint and a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) vehicle in what officials describe as a coordinated attempt by militants. Thankfully, no loss of life was reported in either attack.

Police officials told Dawn News that the first explosion occurred when unidentified attackers riding a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at a police check post along Qambrani Road.

Shortly after the initial attack, a second blast ripped through the same locality. According to police, militants detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) fixed to a motorcycle in an attempt to hit a CTD vehicle rushing toward the scene of the first attack. The device was triggered remotely.

Authorities confirmed that the CTD team remained unharmed and their vehicle did not sustain damage.

Rising Security Concerns Across Balochistan

The twin blasts come at a time when Balochistan is witnessing a sharp rise in militant activity. Over the past months, the province has seen multiple attacks targeting security forces, civilians, and critical infrastructure.

Just a day earlier, three separate explosions rattled different districts of the province. In Mach town of district Kachhi, one person suffered injuries in a blast, while two more explosions were reported in Mastung’s Major Chowk, where militants later exchanged fire with security forces.

Earlier this week, the Jaffar Express narrowly avoided a militant assault while crossing the Bolan Pass — marking the sixth attack on the train service in less than two months.

On September 30, Quetta saw one of its deadliest attacks in recent weeks when a bomb detonated near the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters, killing at least 10 people and injuring 33 others.

Authorities on High Alert

Law enforcement agencies have intensified patrols and monitoring in sensitive zones amid fears of further attacks. Security officials say investigations are underway to determine whether the latest Quetta explosions are connected to other recent incidents.
