GHOTKI: Armed criminals attacked a passenger coach on the Ghotki–Guddu Kashmore Road, abducting 18 passengers after opening fire, police confirmed on Wednesday.

According to officials, the incident occurred near the Murid Branch area, where assailants stopped a coach operated by a well-known transport company and forced passengers off the vehicle at gunpoint. At the time of the attack, around 25 people were traveling on the coach, including women.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers allowed women to leave but abducted 18 male passengers, taking them to an unknown location. During the assault, the gunmen fired multiple shots, shattering the bus windows and causing panic among passengers.

Police stated that security forces, including Rangers, were immediately dispatched and a search operation is underway to trace the abducted passengers and apprehend the attackers. Checkpoints have been set up in surrounding areas, while law enforcement agencies are gathering intelligence to track the suspects’ movement.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about passenger safety and law-and-order conditions on highways in the region. Authorities have assured that all possible measures are being taken to ensure the safe recovery of the abducted passengers.
