Sardar Muhammad Khondai:Â
CHAMAN: The first snowfall of the season has been recorded on the Kojak Top mountains near Chaman, covering the extended Kojak range, Kan Mehterzai, and nearby high-altitude areas. The fresh spell of snow, accompanied by widespread rain, has continued across several districts of Balochistan for the past two days.
Authorities confirmed that the Quetta–Chaman Highway remains fully operational for all types of traffic. This has been made possible due to timely coordination between the district administration, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and the National Highway Authority (NHA). In other snow-affected regions, relevant departments and local administrations are actively engaged in clearing main roads to ensure smooth movement and prevent disruptions.
Beyond its immediate weather impact, the snowfall has sparked optimism among local communities. Many residents believe that this early snow and rainfall may help reduce the effects of prolonged drought-like conditions and contribute, even modestly, to mitigating the impacts of climate change and global warming in the province.
Particularly relieved are farmers and the growers’ community, who have faced water shortages and declining agricultural output in recent years. The precipitation is expected to improve soil moisture, recharge groundwater levels, and benefit upcoming crops and orchards.
Residents across the region expressed satisfaction over the changing weather, hoping it signals a healthier winter season ahead. While authorities remain alert to any potential challenges posed by continued snowfall, the overall mood remains positive, with many viewing the weather shift as a much-needed blessing for Balochistan’s fragile environment and agriculture-dependent economy.
