Quetta – The Federal Constitutional Court has ordered the postponement of local government elections in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. The decision was made during the hearing of a petition filed by Abd-ul-Qadir Shah and Munir Ahmad, who argued that the 2017 census was being used for the elections, despite the 2023 census being notified, which is a violation of the law.
The Election Commission had earlier rejected the request of the Balochistan Chief Minister to postpone the elections, stating that they would be held on December 28 as scheduled. However, the Federal Constitutional Court has now ordered the postponement of the elections, with the hearing adjourned until the third week of January 2026.
