News Desk: Former prime minister Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi has successfully undergone a medical procedure for an eye condition after reporting reduced vision in his right eye, according to an official medical update.
Mr Khan, 74, who is currently incarcerated at Central Jail Adyala, was examined by a senior ophthalmologist from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The examination was carried out at the jail and included a comprehensive eye assessment such as slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, intraocular pressure measurement, essential laboratory tests, and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) of the retina.
Following the assessment, doctors diagnosed Mr Khan with right central retinal vein occlusion, a condition that can impair vision if not treated in a timely manner. Medical experts recommended hospital-based follow-up treatment to manage the condition effectively.
Acting on medical advice, Mr Khan was transferred to PIMS late Saturday night for the required procedure. Hospital officials stated that the treatment plan, including the administration of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, was clearly explained to the patient. Informed consent was obtained before proceeding.
The procedure was performed in the operation theatre under standard sterile protocols and continuous monitoring. It was completed smoothly within approximately 20 minutes. Medical staff confirmed that Mr Khan remained vitally stable throughout the process.
After the procedure, he was discharged with routine post-treatment care instructions, follow-up advice, and relevant medical documentation. Hospital authorities described the treatment as successful and uneventful.
