The Federal Ministry of Health Pakistan has appreciated the strong performance of the TB Control Program in Balochistan, recognizing the province’s progress in tackling tuberculosis through improved prevention, detection, and treatment measures.

In an official letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Balochistan, the ministry’s Central Management Unit acknowledged the visible improvements made over the past year and commended the provincial health authorities for achieving measurable results in TB control.

The letter highlighted the leadership of Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar and Health Secretary Mujeeb ur Rehman, noting that their strategic oversight played a key role in strengthening tuberculosis-related interventions across the province.

Special appreciation was also extended to Provincial Program Manager Dr. Sher Afgan Raisani for his effective planning, professional expertise, and dedicated efforts, which significantly contributed to the program’s success.

According to the ministry, major achievements of the Balochistan TB Control Program include large-scale disease screening in prisons across the province, where inmates were examined for 32 different diseases. The TB case detection rate also increased from 38 percent to 48 percent within a year, reflecting improved surveillance and active screening. In addition, treatment services for drug-resistant tuberculosis were expanded to 16 centers, compared to only two centers previously.

Health experts say these developments have strengthened early diagnosis, widened access to quality treatment, and improved overall public health outcomes in Balochistan, marking an important step forward in controlling the spread of tuberculosis.
