News Desk: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Friday defended the appointment of Justice (R) Mehta Kailash Nath Kohli as Chairman of the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC), stating that no individual should be criticized on the basis of religion as all citizens enjoy equal rights under the Constitution.

Addressing the Provincial Assembly, the chief minister was responding to a question raised by MPA Zamrak Khan Achakzai, who asked whether there was no other person available to be appointed to the position.

The chief minister said that criticism over Kohli’s appointment simply because he is a Hindu was inappropriate, adding that merit and professional integrity should remain the guiding principles in such decisions.

He also recalled that around 2013 the image of the BPSC had been badly damaged due to unfair appointments and irregularities. However, he said that when Justice (R) Mehta Kailash Nath Kohli served as chairman, he took steps to remove those irregularities and restore the institution’s credibility.

The chief minister further noted that Kohli enjoys a strong professional reputation and had maintained a good record even during his tenure as a judge. He added that Kohli’s previous performance and integrity were the reasons behind his selection, emphasizing that the government remains committed to merit-based appointments and equal rights for all citizens.
