Quetta court sentences an accused to 12 years RI for involvement in child abuse

A local court in Quetta sentenced an accused to 12 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 200,000 for his involvement in child abuse. Session Judge Sariab, Mr. Tariq Anwar Kasi announced the judgment on Friday.

According to the prosecution, an accused identified as Abdul Ghaffar was subjecting children to sexual abuse in his shop. In January 2020, police registered a case against the accused and arrested him. Police presented the challan of the case in this court.

After completion of the arguments of the lawyers, Judge Tariq Anwar Kasi sentenced the accused Abdul Ghaffar to 12 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 2 lakh. In case of non-payment of fine, the accused will be given 6 more months.

Violence against women, children on a constant rise in Balochistan 

In Balochistan, violence against women and children increased recently. Women and human rights activists have expressed a concerned voice about the increasing violence. “Violence against women and children appears to be rampant”, Allauddin Khilji, who heads the regional office of Aurat Foundation said.

Ayesha Wadood, the head of the UN Women Sub-Office says this year 17 women have been killed in the name of ‘honor killings’ in Balochistan. “There must be an end to such brutal acts”, she demanded.
