DC Loralai sacks 70 chronic absentee teachers

Deputy Commissioner Loralai, Dr. Attique Rehman Shahwani has sacked 70 chronic absentee teachers during the ongoing crackdown. “The teachers failed to ensure their presence despite repeated notices”, Mr. Shahwani told Quetta Voice via telephone.
Teachers belong to Loralai city and various towns and villages. “We are not going to spare absent teachers”, the DC stated. Despite repeated attempts, this scribe was unable to speak to the sacked teachers. However, Syed Muhammad, the General Secretary of Government Teachers Association Loralai preferred not to comment on the issue. “Now I am busy and I can’t speak to you”, he told this scribe when asked about the termination of teachers.
The Balochistan government has directed all deputy commissioners to conduct frequent visits to schools and hospitals to ensure the presence of teachers and doctors. Chief Secretary Balochistan, Mathar Niaz Rana has visited various districts and directed the concerned quarters to improve health and education facilities for the masses.
Teachers were not performing their duties
The sacked teachers were absent for the last few years and they were not teaching students. Complaints on the part of citizens prompted the administration to launch a crackdown against the chronically absent teachers.
“Teachers must ensure their presence in schools”, Mr. Shahwani said. Teams were also formed to conduct regular visits of schools to check the presence of teachers in primary, middle, and high schools across the district.
Education department had earlier suspended 2000 teachers
Former Secretary of Education Balochistan, Tayyab Lehri had suspended over 2000 teachers for being absent for years. The teachers belonged to Quetta, Kech, Killa Abdullah, Pishin, Dera Bugti, and other districts of the province.
Balochistan government has allocated Rs. 75 billion for the education sector during the budget for the financial year 2021-22. However, schools across Balochistan paint a bleak picture when it comes to quality and standard of education.
