SBK students protest against no gas supply in hostels

QUETTA: A large number of students of Sardar Bahadur Khan (SBK) Women University staged a protest demonstration against no gas supply in their hostels. Female students gathered outside the office of the Vice-Chancellor SBK and chanted slogans against the administration for its failure to provide basic facilities in the hostel.
“SBK administration has failed to address our basic issues”, Ayesha, a student protesting outside the VC’s office lamented. She said most of the students were suffering from various diseases because of chilly weather.
The university administration closed all entry gates in the aftermath of the students’ protest inside the campus. Media or outsiders were not being allowed to enter and cover the protest.

Despite repeated attempts, the Quetta Voice was not able to take the administration’s point of view about the situation. Students chant full-throated slogans in videos shared in social media groups. “There is either low or no gas pressure inside the university hostels”, an official of the SBK said. He requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
CM takes notice of students protest
Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo has taken the notice of students’ protests in the SBK. The CM has directed the concerned authorities to make sure provision of gas and power supply to the hostels of the university.
Currently, over 10,000 students studying in the university
The enrollment in the province’s only women university is more than 10,000 students from Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. The students appealed the Governor Balochistan, Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha to take notice of the protest and address the gas supply and other basic issues inside the campus. There has been no response from the Governor’s Secretariat so far. Governor is the Chancellor of the University.
