Supreme Court of Pakistan reinstates 16,000 sacked employees

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has reinstated 16,000 sacked employees on humanitarian grounds on Friday morning. The apex court had earlier sacked all employees recruited and then reinstated in Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) governments.
The SC had earlier reserved the judgment regarding the fate of the sacked employees. On Friday, the SC judge, Mr. Justice Umar Atta Bandial, the head of the five-member larger bench comprising Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Mr. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, Mr. Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin, and Mr. Justice Aminuddin Khan announced the judgment.
Reading the judgment Mr. Justice Atta Bandial said there is sanctity of the Constittuion and we are bound to protect it. No decision can be taken against the Constitution.
The resinstaement of the employees is a matter of human sympathy. The Justice stated that no disqualified person can be declared qualified for any position. It may be mentioned here that the petitions were filed by the sacked employees and federation both in the apex court. This was for the first that no party was against another since both the parties were seeking reinstatement.
These employees were recruited in Pakistan Peoples Party government in 1990s. However, they were terminated when the former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif came in power. All sacked employees were reinstated during former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza led PPP government earlier.
