QUETTA: Prices of vegetables and fruits skyrocketed during the sacred month of Ramazan ul Mubarak. In Quetta’s Kasi road vegetable market, per kilogram of tomatoes were being sold at Rs.200. “Where can we got, look at the price hike”, Muhammad Sharif, a customer said. The prices of vegetables have also gone up.

This time, the Balochistan government has not established any Ramazan or Sasta bazar to give relief to the masses. Earlier, the district administrations on the directive of provincial governments would establish Ramazan bazar to give relief to the people.

“We cannot buy anything, this is out of our reach”, Noaman Khan, another customer outside a vegetable shop complained. He said the shopkeepers were minting money right under the nose of the district administration. The Quetta administration has given a specific list and prices of commodities to the shopkeepers. However, the shopkeepers are not following the instructions of the administration.

“Mutton per kg is available at Rs. 1400”, Sultan Muhammad, another customer laments. He said this government was least bothered about the financial problems of the masses.

The federal government has also failed to announce a relief package for the people. Unemployment, and poverty has compounded the problems of the people in Balochistan and other parts of the country.
