Balochistan High Court (BHC) has suspended the local bodies’ elections schedule for the upcoming Metropolitan Corporation Quetta and the District Council. A division bench of the BHC comprising Mr. Justice Muhammad Kamran Mullakhail and Mr. Justice Nazeer Ahmed Langove passed this order on a constitutional petition.
Senior lawyers Attaullah Langove Advocate, Asad Khan Achakzai Advocate, and others have filed the constitutional petition. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced the holding of the local government elections in Quetta on August 28, 2022, and in other parts of Balochistan.
The Court directs Election Commissioner to submit a report about Census Block Code
The senior Law Officer (SLO) of ECP and the District Election Commissioner submitted a detailed report about the Census Block Code (CBC) before the court about the Urban area and Metropolitan area. The bench however directed them to submit a detailed report about the rural areas of district Quetta.
The Balochistan government conducted local government elections on May 29th in 32 districts of the province. Elections were not held in Quetta and district Lasbella because of delimitations issues. The court had also directed suspended the holding of elections in the Tehsil Huramzai and Zhob municipal corporations.
