The idea of launching the “My Home My School” program appears to be the right step in the right direction during the closure of educational institutions across Balochistan. The closure of educational institutions in Balochistan in the aftermath of the outbreak of coronavirus has impacted the education of over 1 Million students studying in government-run primary, middle and high schools of the province. The closure of private educational institutions has also affected the education of a large number of students.
The program launched with the technical assistance of the United Nations International Children’s’ Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and in collaboration with the education department government of Balochistan serves as the best tool to make sure provision of education to students following the closure of educational institutions. So far, over 1200 centers under the “My Home My School” program have been established across the province to avoid waste of precious time of students.
Children are free and parents are also at homes owing to the outbreak of coronavirus in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. The federal government had announced the closure of educational institutions till May 31st. In these free times, it is the best opportunity for parents to teach their kids. Indeed, parents can be the best teachers. Students can be taught ethics, math, science and all subjects. If not all, parents can teach only a few selected subjects to enable their kids to compete in the future. To be precise, something is better than nothing.
The centers under the program have been established in various parts of the province and the secretary secondary education, Ghulam Ali Baloch has directed all teachers and administrative officers of education department to coordinate with UNICEF officials in this regard. The keen interest of the education high ups deserves to be appreciated in this respect.
This is a timely decision in these isolation and quarantine times. The parents need to be sensitized about the establishment of such centers so that they could teach their kids. It will broaden their vision coupled with knowing the capacity and commitment of their children.
Hardly, parents check their kids in schools during normal days. Let’s turn this trouble surfaced after the outbreak of coronavirus into an opportunity and join hands to get our kids taught in “My Home My School” centers. This will pave the way for an educated society. Only then, we can battle the COVID-19 in an effective way.
The federal government has already launched a “TeleSchool” TV for students across the country. However, in Balochistan, continued load shedding and non-availability of TV has deprived children in many areas. That is a good initiative but power supply coupled with the availability of a TV set is important. Moreover, the “My Home My School” program does not require either.
