ISLAMABAD: Central Vice-President Pakistan Muslim League (N), Maryam Nawaz Sharif tested positive for COVID19 on Saturday. Ahead of the Punjab by-elections, the PML N leader took to social media network Twitter and announced that she has contracted the novel coronavirus.

Maryam Nawaz has addressed public rallies to make sure victory of PML N in the bye-elections. She has lashed out at the former Prime Minister Imran Khan for what she claimed the latter’s failure to address the issues of the masses.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is all set to hold by-elections on 20 national assembly seats in Punjab tomorrow (July 17).

Since the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic in Pakistan in February 2020, several top politicians and government officials have tested positive, including President Arif Alvi, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. They have since recovered.

During the last 24 hours, the country reported 737 new cases and 10 fatalities. The positivity rate was recorded at 3.3 percent.
