Security has been tightened for the Aushora procession in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. “Over 6500 policemen would guard the aushora procession in Quetta”, Syed Fida Hassan Shah, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police told Daily Quetta Voice.
Besides policemen, frontier corps personnel would also be deployed at the routes of processions throughout the provincial capital to make sure peace.

“Bomb disposal squad would also conduct sweeping of the procession routes”, Mr. Shah informed. The administration has declared 24 Imam Bargahs very sensitive, 23 sensitive and 30 normal in Quetta city.
The Balochistan government has devised a comprehensive security plan to avert any untoward incident on the eve of aushora processions across the province. The provincial government has also decided to conduct aerial surveillance of the aushora procession in Quetta.
“We have 191 operational CCTV cameras on procession routes”, the DIG mentioned. This number is in addition to the cameras being operated by the Frontier Corps, he explained.
Control rooms established
The government has also established control rooms at the capital city police officer and the DIG’s offices to ensure proper monitoring of the processions. “The procession from Mach would also be brought to Quetta amid tight security”, Syed Fida Hassan Shah said.
The Quetta administration would seal all shops, markets and plazas located on the procession routes to maintain order and ensure tight security. Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Mir Shehak Baloch and other administration officials also visited the procession routes to review security arrangements.

“We have taken traders community and Shia conference into confidence about the security plan”, Mr. Baloch said. The Balochistan government has already announced 9th and 10th Muharram as public holidays. The government has also suspended mobile service in Quetta, Jhal Magsi and other parts of the province.
Quetta city has witnessed the worst kind of sectarian terrorist incidents in the past. Terrorists have repeatedly targeted the Shia Hazara community in Quetta in the past.
