The Quetta-Karachi highway was blocked at Kalat against unannounced and prolonged load shedding on Thursday morning. The growers and domestic consumers were protesting against prolonged hours of load shedding in the area.

Long queues of passengers buses, trucks and other small vehicles could be witnessed as a result of the blockade of the highway.

“Our standing crops destroyed because of load shedding”, Muhammad Rasool, one of the emotionally charged protesters said. He said the growers community suffered huge financial losses as a result of the load shedding.

The administration later came to the protesters and held successful negotiations and reopened the highway linking Balochistan with Sindh province.
