Spokesman government of Balochistan, Liaquat Shahwani has said that the former federal information minister, Javed Jabbar was a suitable candidate to represent the province in National Finance Commission (NFC) award meeting.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday evening, Mr. Shahwani stated that it was the political mandate of the provincial government to nominate any candidate to represent the province in NFC award. “The province has constitutional and political right to do so”, Mr. Shahwani mentioned.
The spokesman government of Balochistan’s comments has come after two senior members of legal fraternity challenged the nomination of Javed Jabbar as a member of Balochistan in the NFC award committee.
Commenting on the coronavirus cases in Balochistan, Mr. Shahwani said that the mortality rate in Covid-19 related deaths has reached 2 percent now. Earlier it was 1.5 percent as per the statistics shared by the health department.
Mr. Shahwani stated that the current recovery rate from the deadly novel coronavirus in Balochistan was recorded 18 percent. He informed that 2000 patients were in isolation in Quetta city battling the novel coronavirus.
In response to a question, he said that the Covid-19 has impacted 1.3 million poverty hit families financially. He said that the government was taking various steps to support the deserving and needy class of society.
Mr. Shahwani informed that over 500 people were arrested in Quetta city for violating standard operating procedures during the smart lockdown within last few days.
