QUETTA: Torrential rains and flash floods unleashed by heavy rainfall claimed 11 lives during the last one week in various districts of Balochistan.
The dead include 6 men, 3 women, and two children. These deaths were reported in the district of Baluchistan, Zhob, Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, Pashin, Dera Bugti, Qila Saifullah, Nasirabad, and Awaran.
According to the officials of the provincial body, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), rains have been continuing for the last 15 days in different districts of Baluchistan, due to which people’s houses were washed away in flood water in many places, which most of the damages, Killa Saifullah, It happened in Kharan, Washik, Naseerabad, where many families became homeless. The Chief Minister Balochistan approved the provision of Rs 15 crore as a relief fund to the Deputy Commissioners of all districts so that the people can be helped in time.
Deputy Director PDM Muhammad Faisal told Quetta Voice that on an emergency basis, the rescue teams of PDMA rescued 40 families in Kharan and 7 people trapped in water in Harnai with the help of local relief forces.
It was said that in Baluchistan, there is less damage due to floods and rains compared to last year. But if the rains continue, there is a fear of more damage.
Due to the recent monsoon rains, the Quetta-Karachi-Sindh-Malani highway has been closed for the past week after the Panjara bridge in Bolan district was washed away by floodwaters. While Fort Mandu, Harnai, Sanjawi Road has been restored to traffic after landslides.
