QUETTA: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) on Tuesday destroyed vegetables and salad cultivated on 150 acres land in the provincial capital. The BFA launched an operation against the elements involved in the cultivation of vegetables cultivated through contaminated water in the city. “We have destroyed crops on 150 cares land in Quetta”, Khadim Hussain, an official of the BFA told Daily Quetta Voice.
Scores of BFA officials backed by local administration launched in the operation in the Sabzal Road and other areas of the city. No resistance was witnessed by the elements involved in the cultivation of the vegetables through contaminated water. “This is poison in the name of vegetables”, Khadim Hussain, the BFA official stated.
Crackdown launched against vegetables through contaminated water
People can approach us at our complaint portal with regard to substandard food and cultivation through contaminated water, Mr. Hussain mentioned. The crackdown was launched in the provincial capital on the directives of the Director-General BFA, Muhammad Naeem Bazai. Mr. Bazai has directed the BFA officials not to spare the elements playing with the lives of people.
Khadim Hussain stated that most of the Afghan refugees are involved in the cultivation of crops through contaminated water. Crops are being cultivated in the Sabzal Road, Sariab Road, Mano Jan Road, Aghberg and other parts of the provincial capital.
No arrest was made during the operation
No arrest was made during the operation conducted by the BFA in the Sabzal Road area of the city. Despite repeated operations by the BFA, the cultivation of crops through contaminated water is still underway in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.
Medical experts say these crops including vegetables and salads are causing different diseases including cancer, lung issues, hepatitis A B and C. They have urged the BFA and the provincial government to take stern action against the elements involved in vegetables and salad in the city.
