Government committed to eradicate poliovirus from Balochistan

QUETTA: The Anti-Polio Drive was launched across Balochistan like in other parts of the country on Monday morning. Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan administered polio drops to children below the age of five years. Secretary of Health Balochistan, Asfandyar Khan, Head of the Emergency Operation Cell (EOC), Syed Zahid Shah and others were also present on the occasion.

“Government is committed to eradicating the crippling virus”, Shakeel Qadir Khan vowed on the occasion. The top civilian officer of the province stated that fool-proof security measures were adopted by the government to provide security for polio volunteers across the province.

More than 2.4 million children to be administered polio drops

During the campaign, the health department has set the target of administering anti-polio drops to more than 2.4 million children in Balochistan. Thousands of teams have also been formed to ensure the success of the campaign.

“No child would be missed and anti-polio drops would be administered to all the children”, the CS Balochistan stated. He directed all government departments to boost coordination to eradicate the polio virus from the province.

Balochistan polio-free for the last two years

Balochistan has been polio virus for more than two years. The last polio virus case was reported in January 2021 from the Killa Abdullah district of Balochistan. However, the health officials feared that polio environmental samples were detected in the Pishin district of Balochistan.

The provincial government has tightened security across Balochistan to ensure peace and avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident in the province.
