QUETTA: The Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) recently played host to a pivotal voter awareness workshop aimed at engaging and educating young individuals in the electoral process. Organized in collaboration with PLDAT and supported by UNDP, this event brought together a large contingent of university students eager to learn about the significance of voting.
The workshop witnessed distinguished personalities in attendance, including the Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS, Dr. Abdul Rehman, District Election Commissioner Quetta, Syed Nazir Ahmed Harifal, Faheem Ahmed from PLDAT, and dedicated staff from the Election Commission.
Necessity of Youth Engagement In the Voting Process
In his opening remarks, Abdul Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, lauded the efforts of the Election Commission and emphasized the importance of such awareness workshops in enlightening the youth, with a particular focus on female students. District Election Commissioner Quetta Syed Nazir Ahmed also addressed the participants, underlining the necessity of youth engagement in the electoral process.
The workshop provided comprehensive insights into the students’ roles in boosting voter turnout, particularly among women, during upcoming general elections. A lively question and answer session was organized, where students posed queries to the panel members, who provided in-depth answers. The panel members passionately encouraged participants to embrace their national duty by participating in the forthcoming general elections.

Election Commission Assistant Director, Ghous Bakhsh and UNDP representative Amina took the stage to emphasize the vital role of the youth in the election process.
To further acquaint the students with the voting process, a mock polling exercise was conducted by District Election Commissioner Quetta Syed Nazir Ahmed and his team. This exercise piqued the students’ interest and resulted in numerous questions and discussions.
This voter awareness workshop marked a significant step towards fostering youth involvement in the electoral process, with Bitums University Quetta taking the lead in this crucial initiative. The engagement of young minds is pivotal in ensuring a vibrant and participatory democracy.
