Syed Ali Shah:
QUETTA: During a session of the Balochistan Assembly, a sudden power breakdown caused the entire house to plunge into darkness, bringing the proceedings to an abrupt halt. Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Captain (R) Khaliq Achakzai, highlighted the irony of the situation by noting that the chief of the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) had been summoned to the assembly to explain the ongoing issue of unannounced load shedding in the province. The unexpected blackout underscored the very problem the assembly aimed to address.
Mir Sadiq Umrani, a central leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the provincial minister for irrigation, used the incident to emphasize the dire conditions faced by residents in various parts of Balochistan, including Naseerabad and Sibi, where temperatures are typically high. Umrani pointed out that if the power situation in the assembly was this poor, the situation for ordinary citizens must be even worse. He urged the media to critically report on the inefficiencies and issues plaguing QESCO to draw attention to the broader problems affecting the region.
