CHAGHI: The Pakistan-Iran rail service has been suspended following the derailment of a freight train near Dalbandin, Balochistan. Railway officials have confirmed that three bogies of the train went off the track. The incident occurred while the train was traveling from Taftan to Quetta.
Rescue operations are currently underway to restore the derailed bogies to the track. This disruption is reminiscent of last year’s suspension of the rail service between Pakistan and Iran due to heavy rainfall in the area. The service, which connects Quetta with Iran, had only recently resumed after the previous suspension.
Railway authorities noted that the track had been submerged under rainwater, which had halted goods train traffic between the two countries. At that time, a goods train carrying sulfur cargo from Iran and an Iran-bound train from Quetta were both stopped midway due to the flooded tracks.
The rail service between Pakistan and Iran frequently faces interruptions, primarily due to poor railway infrastructure, making derailments a common occurrence.
