A 24-month-old minor girl was tested positive for poliovirus in Balochistan’s Pishin district on Sunday. Samples of the minor girl were collected and sent to the laboratory a few days back, a health officer who declined to be named told the daily Quetta Voice. The laboratory has confirmed that the minor girl has contracted the virus.
The reason behind the fresh case of the crippling virus was refusal on the part of parents, he mentioned. The minor girl belongs to union council Pishin town, he added.
With the confirmation of fresh case of the poliovirus, the number of cases reached 9 in Balochistan during the current year. Last year, Balochistan had reported 12 cases of the crippling virus. Anti polio campaign has been halted as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus.
