QUETTA: In a significant move to encourage students and reduce psychological stress, the Education Department of Balochistan has decided to replace the terms “pass” and “fail” with “promoted” and “retained” on result cards. This initiative was announced by District Education Officer (DEO) Quetta, Syed Nasir Shah, on Sunday.

Speaking about the decision, DEO Syed Nasir Shah said, “The words ‘pass’ and ‘fail’ have been completely replaced to discourage students from losing interest in their studies.

This change aims to provide students with the motivation to improve academically while meeting the expectations of their teachers and parents.”

He further highlighted that writing “fail” on result cards often leads to psychological trauma for students, affecting their mental health and performance for months.

By adopting a more positive terminology, the education department hopes to foster a supportive environment for learning and self-improvement.

This initiative has been widely appreciated by educators and parents, who believe it will help reduce the stigma associated with academic setbacks and encourage students to strive for better outcomes.

The education department’s progressive approach is seen as a step toward creating a more inclusive and empathetic education system in Balochistan.
