A tragic incident occurred in Sanjdi, approximately 40 kilometers from Quetta, as a coal mine collapsed due to a buildup of gas, leaving 12 miners trapped underground. Despite ongoing rescue efforts for over five hours, workers are still searching for the trapped individuals amid hazardous conditions.
Challenging Rescue Operations
According to Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind, rescue teams rushed to the site immediately after the incident. However, the presence of toxic gas and debris has made the operation highly challenging. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has dispatched a technical team to assist with the rescue.
Government’s Swift Response
Provincial Minister for Mines and Finance, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, expressed deep concern over the incident and ordered an investigation into potential safety violations. He instructed Chief Inspector of Mines Abdul Ghani Baloch to deploy two additional rescue teams to expedite the operation.
“No mine owner will be considered above the law or human life,” Nosherwani said. “Strict legal action will be taken if violations of mining regulations are confirmed.”

The minister emphasized the importance of modern safety measures in mining operations and pledged that the government will take all necessary steps to protect miners’ lives. He assured that those found responsible for negligence will face strict legal action.
