The investigation team completed an inquiry against the officials of the Balochistan University involved in the CCTV footage scandal. This information was given by counsel for the university, Akram Shah Advocate and registrar of the university, Wali ur Rehman to the divisional bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) comprising Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Nazeer Ahmed Langove on Tuesday.
In October 2019, the BHC had directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the CCTV footage scandal in the province’s oldest university. FIA had investigated over 200 staff members of the Balochistan University and the officials involved in the scam were removed from their positions to pave the way for an independent inquiry. The then Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Javed Iqbal was also removed from his position.
The court was informed that one official identified as Saifullah from the security service was removed from his job, whereas, the recommendations of the inquiry committee against the former vice-chancellor, Javed Iqbal, registrar Tariq Jogezai, chief security officer, Muhammad Naeem, and Muhammad Shareef Ex- Transport Officer would be placed before the Syndicate in its forthcoming meeting. Syndicate is the competent authority to make any decision in this regard, they mentioned, this was mentioned in the BHC order obtained by the daily Quetta Voice.
FIA sources stated that secret cameras were unlawfully installed in different locations of the University to blackmail male and female students by some elements of the university. The BHC ordered the university administration to convene the meeting of the Syndicate within two weeks and consider the issues raised by the petitioner through this petition, a well-placed source in the BHC told the daily Quetta Voice.
The registrar should submit a report along with the decision of the Syndicate regarding the inquiry.
