QUETTA – In a major legal development, the Balochistan High Court on Tuesday ordered the release of more than 53 Balochistan National Party (BNP) workers who had been detained under the 3 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) law.
The court’s ruling came after detailed arguments presented by BNP’s Central Senior Vice President and senior lawyer, Advocate Sajid Tareen. A two-member bench comprising Justice Rozi Khan Bareech and Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi heard the case in Quetta.
During the hearing, Advocate Tareen told the court that BNP workers, including children, were illegally detained by the government in Quetta following a peaceful sit-in staged by the party in Mastung, demanding the release of Baloch women. “Such incidents used to occur during martial law, but now they are happening under a so-called democratic setup,” he argued.
In response, the Balochistan government, through the Advocate General, submitted an official notification, stating that all MPO orders against BNP workers were being withdrawn and those detained under the 3 MPO would be released immediately.
Present in the courtroom were BNP’s Central Secretary Information and former federal minister Advocate Agha Hassan Baloch, former Sessions Judge Zarif Baloch, Advocate Muhammad Ibrahim Lehri, Advocate Sardar Sherdil, and other party members.
Following the court’s decision, Sajid Tareen Advocate said, “As BNP had promised, we will not abandon our party workers and the daughters of this land. Today, the honourable judges have proven that the people of Balochistan can still look to the judiciary for justice.
