MASTUNG – April 23, 2025: Armed assailants opened fire on a security team guarding a polio vaccination team in Mastung, Balochistan, resulting in the martyrdom of two Levies personnel. The attack is seen as yet another attempt to sabotage Pakistan’s nationwide polio eradication campaign.
The Spokesperson of the Balochistan Government, Shahid Rind, strongly condemned the incident, calling it a tragic and cowardly act of violence. He confirmed that full investigations are underway and all aspects of the attack are being closely examined.
“This is a highly unfortunate incident. The provincial government remains committed to ensuring the success of the anti-polio drive and will not allow such acts of terror to derail public health efforts,” Shahid Rind said in a statement.
He paid rich tribute to the martyred Levies personnel, acknowledging their bravery and sacrifice. “We are proud of our martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifice will not go in vain,” he added.
The spokesperson further announced that the security arrangements for polio teams across the province are being strengthened to prevent such incidents in the future.
