Quetta, May 23, 2025 — The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has launched a targeted operation to destroy vegetables cultivated using sewage water, in an effort to protect public health and prevent toxic produce from reaching local markets.

The crackdown, which took place in Quetta, focused on leafy and salad vegetables grown with untreated wastewater.

Standing crops irrigated with contaminated water were uprooted and destroyed on the spot. Security measures were tightened throughout the operation to ensure law and order, as officials worked to prevent any possible unrest.

Balochistan Food Minister Haji Noor Muhammad Dummar visited the site during the operation and lauded the swift action taken by the BFA. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and healthy food for the people of Balochistan and warned that legal action would be taken against those involved in harmful agricultural practices.

“This is not just a health issue, it’s about the safety of our communities,” said Minister Dummar. “We will not allow poisonous vegetables to reach our people.”

The operation is expected to expand to other districts where similar practices have been reported.
