Mastung – A powerful explosion struck the Jaffar Express on Sunday near Spezant in Dasht Tehsil of Mastung district, damaging its engine and five coaches, officials confirmed.
According to Levies sources, the blast occurred when an explosive device planted on the railway track detonated as the train passed. The impact caused the engine and multiple bogies to derail, bringing the passenger service to a sudden halt.
Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported. Rescue teams and railway staff swiftly arrived at the scene to assist passengers, while security forces cordoned off the area to search for those responsible.
Officials said the attack was carried out using locally planted explosives, highlighting the persistent security challenges in the region. The Jaffar Express, which operates between Quetta and Rawalpindi, is one of Balochistan’s key passenger trains and has previously been targeted in similar incidents.
Authorities have launched an investigation, and security patrols along railway tracks in the province have been intensified to prevent further sabotage attempts.
