After four of months suspension, the anti-polio campaign was launched this morning in 10 union councils of Quetta city. The polio campaign was suspended following the outbreak of COVID19 in the country.
Rashid Razzaq, the Coordinator, Emergency Operation Cell (EOC) said 110, 000 children under the age of five years would be provided polio drops. Polio teams have been formed by the government to make sure the campaign a success. The EOC, government of Balochistan in collaboration with UNICEF and WHO launched this campaign after increasing polio cases in the province.
Parents have been urged to make sure to provide polio drops to their kids. Security has also been tightened to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident during the campaign. Police have been deployed at all sensitive points to guard the polio volunteers battling the crippling virus in the city.
The EOC has already revealed in a statement that environmental samples indicate the presence of poliovirus in almost all parts of the city. Balochistan has so far confirmed 15 cases of the crippling virus this year.
The temperature of all polio volunteers and workers was checked in the morning prior to their movement with regard to the novel coronavirus. The EOC said on its Twitter account that the step was taken for the health of children.
