Cattle owners burnt tents and refused to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Quetta’s Eastern Bypass area on Monday.
Police were called in the cattle market to control the situation after cattle owners blocked the road and set tents on fire. Police sources told the daily Quetta Voice that 30 cattle owners were asked to conduct the novel coronavirus tests after rising temperatures in the cattle market established for the fast approaching Eid ul Azha. The Balochistan government had decided to establish cattle markets outside Quetta city and had already prepared an SOP with regard to cattle markets and its implementation on the eve of Eid ul Azha this year.
The cattle owners refused and resisted and burnt tents inside the market. Quetta Metropolitan Corporation Chief Tariq Mengal said the cattle owners had earlier agreed to follow SOPs with regard to the coronavirus. However, today they violated the SOPs, Mr. Mengal said. Police were later deployed to maintain the law and order situation after the incident.
