QUETTA, November 4: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has expressed serious concern over the acute shortage of nurses in the province, revealing that only 1,700 nurses are available against the requirement of 10,000.

Chairing a high-level meeting on the nursing sector, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of nursing colleges across all divisions and major districts of Balochistan under a public-private partnership model.

It was decided that around 2,000 trained nurses will be produced annually with the assistance of Khyber Medical University, while existing government nursing colleges will continue to operate as usual.

CM Bugti said the provincial government is committed to providing modern nursing and healthcare training to the youth of Balochistan in line with international standards. He emphasized that global demand for nursing and healthcare staff is rising rapidly, and the government’s initiatives aim to prepare Baloch youth to meet these challenges.

“By equipping our youth with internationally recognized nursing skills, we aim to open pathways for dignified and secure employment opportunities abroad,” the Chief Minister stated.

He further highlighted that the provincial government is focusing on training, technology, and improved facilities to strengthen the health sector in Balochistan.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Health Minister Bakh Muhammad Kakar, Chief Secretary Shakil Qadir Khan, and senior officials from the Health Department and Khyber Medical University.
