ISLAMABAD: At least twelve people lost their lives and 27 others sustained injuries in a suicide explosion near the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad’s G-11 area on Tuesday, officials confirmed. The attack coincided with multiple major events in the capital, including the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, the 6th Margalla Dialogue, and a Pakistan-Sri Lanka cricket match taking place in Rawalpindi. A senior Islamabad police officer initially confirmed the casualties, while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi later told reporters outside the courthouse that the blast, identified as a suicide attack, occurred at approximately 12:39 p.m.

According to initial reports, the assailant attempted to enter the courthouse premises but detonated the explosives near a police vehicle after failing to gain access. A forensic team has arrived at the site to collect evidence and determine the nature of the blast.

Rescue teams, including Rescue 1122 personnel and ambulances, swiftly moved the injured to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital. Hospital officials confirmed that over a dozen victims, including some in critical condition, are currently under treatment.

Senior police officials, including the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and the Chief Commissioner, visited both the blast site and the hospital to review the situation. Following the attack, security has been intensified across the federal capital, particularly around judicial and government buildings.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred near a vehicle parked along the service road adjacent to the courthouse gate. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine whether the attacker acted alone or had accomplices.

Further updates will follow as more details emerge about the nature and motive of the attack.
