Quetta Green and Pink Bus Fleet Expanded; 114 Development Schemes Reviewed

News Desk:

The Balochistan government has announced the addition of 21 new public transport buses under the ongoing Quetta Green Bus Service and regional connectivity projects. The new fleet includes 17 Green Buses and 5 Pink Buses for Quetta, while 4 new buses have been allocated for Turbat, aiming to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the provincial capital.

The announcement was made during a key progress review meeting chaired by Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzaib Khan Kakar, where officials reviewed 114 new development schemes approved under the PSDP (Public Sector Development Programme) for Quetta District.

Senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, Divisional Director Development Zahoor Ahmed, and representatives from departments such as Agriculture, Colleges, Culture, Irrigation, Environment, Labour, Local Government, Minorities, Energy, Primary Education, PHE, Transport, QDA, and WASA attended the session.

Key Decisions and Announcements

Commissioner Kakar instructed all departments to accelerate work on PSDP development projects, ensure timely tendering, expedite fund utilization, and resolve all pending issues affecting project delivery. He also directed departments to revive stalled schemes without delay.

A major decision was taken regarding water supply and drinking water projects, making approval from the District Water Committee mandatory before initiating any water-related PSDP schemes. Any project launched without committee approval will be halted immediately.

The meeting emphasized prioritizing health, education, road infrastructure, and clean drinking water projects, directing departments to fast-track ongoing development work. The Commissioner also stressed the elimination of duplicate schemes to ensure transparent and efficient use of public funds.

Transport Upgrades: Green Buses, Pink Buses & EV Plans

During the briefing, the Transport Department confirmed that 21 new buses are being incorporated into the Quetta Urban Transport System. This includes a significant boost to the Green Bus and Pink Bus services, improving daily commute for thousands of residents. The department also revealed that work has officially begun on introducing electric vehicles (EVs) and the People’s Train Service in Quetta to modernize the city’s public transport network.

Commissioner Orders Action Against Absentee Officials

Commissioner Kakar expressed strong displeasure over the absence of several department heads in the meeting and directed that letters be issued to their secretaries seeking explanations. He reiterated that timely completion of public welfare and development projects is the government’s top priority, and negligence will not be tolerated.
