Sardar Muhammad Khundai: Pakistan on Sunday briefly reopened the Pak–Afghan border at Chaman to allow the controlled repatriation of Afghan refugees who had been stranded for days following recent cross-border clashes.

Officials confirmed that the frontier crossing was unsealed only for refugee movement, while all other activities, including trade, commercial transport, and general pedestrian crossing, will remain suspended until security conditions improve. The border had been sealed earlier due to heightened tensions and skirmishes between Pakistani and Afghan forces, which disrupted routine travel and halted outbound refugee convoys.
According to authorities, a significant number of Afghan nationals had been stuck on both sides of the border after the closure, creating humanitarian concerns as temperatures dropped and resources thinned. Security personnel were deployed in large numbers to ensure an orderly and safe repatriation process during the temporary opening.
Officials added that the border will be monitored closely, and further decisions regarding its full reopening will depend on the security situation and coordination between both countries.
