Press Release:Â
Quetta: Concerns have emerged regarding the decision of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan related to the confirmation of a judge from Balochistan, with a member of the Pakistan Bar Council calling for greater transparency in the process.
Pakistan Bar Council member Munir Ahmed Khan Kakar stated that certain aspects of the proceedings involving representatives from Balochistan in the Judicial Commission have raised questions. He said that further details about the matter would be shared with the legal community and the public after Eid.
In a statement, Kakar said that relying on an unclear or unspecified complaint while deciding the confirmation of a judge could lead to concerns about fairness and transparency within the judicial appointment process. He emphasized that merit, professional integrity, and judicial performance should remain the primary considerations in such decisions.
He added that lawyers elect their representatives in bar politics with the expectation that they will protect the rights of the legal community and uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law. According to him, it is important that such sensitive matters are handled carefully to maintain unity and professionalism within the legal fraternity.
Kakar further noted that if a judge’s performance, the quality of judicial decisions, and the ability to dispose of cases efficiently are positively acknowledged, any reservations regarding confirmation should be explained clearly to avoid misunderstandings.
Referring to Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan, he said reports available regarding the judge’s professional performance have described his judicial work in positive terms. However, he added that the circumstances surrounding the decision on his confirmation have prompted calls for clarification.
