Duki: Five personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) were martyred and another injured when a remote-controlled explosion struck a security forces vehicle in Balochistan’s Duki district on Monday, officials said.
The explosion occurred in the Luni tehsil area at Killi Bakhtiar Khan. According to police, an improvised explosive device planted along the roadside was detonated as the FC vehicle passed through the area.
Security officials said the FC personnel were returning to Duki after taking part in an operation against illegal poppy cultivation in the region.
Police and Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF) vehicles were also part of the convoy during the operation. However, authorities said the blast took place after the police and ATF vehicles had already crossed the spot, and the explosion was triggered when the FC vehicle reached the location.
The powerful blast resulted in the martyrdom of five FC personnel, while one official sustained injuries. The injured was moved to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, additional security personnel reached the site and launched a search operation in the surrounding area. Security across the locality has been tightened to prevent any further incidents.
Security forces have faced similar attacks in parts of Balochistan in the past, with outlawed militant groups often claiming responsibility for such assaults targeting law enforcement and security personnel.
