QUETTA: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested an Afghan national allegedly involved in terrorist activities inside the country, marking a significant development amid rising regional security concerns.
According to officials, the suspect is believed to have links with Tehreek-i-Taliban and was apprehended along with two accomplices. Authorities revealed that the arrested individual possessed a computerized Pakistan identification document, while investigations are underway to determine how he may have obtained Pakistani identity papers.
The arrest was disclosed during a high-level press conference addressed by Balochistan Home Minister Zia Langove, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqaat, and DIG CTD Aitzaz Goraya. Officials described the regional security environment as increasingly volatile, warning of persistent threats to national stability.
Hamza Shafqaat shared that over the past year, authorities have carried out thousands of operations against illegal Afghan nationals, leading to the detention of more than 100,000 individuals. He emphasized that strict monitoring and enforcement measures are being implemented to curb illegal activities.
Speaking at the briefing, Zia Langove reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace despite facing long-standing security challenges. He alleged that hostile elements are using proxy networks to fuel terrorism within the country, while also expressing concern over the repeated use of Afghan soil against Pakistan.
The minister clarified that Pakistan seeks peaceful and cooperative relations with Afghanistan but will take firm action against any threats to its sovereignty. He also warned that individuals aiding hostile elements would face strict legal consequences.
DIG CTD Aitzaz Goraya confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network behind the arrested suspect and to address loopholes in documentation systems.
The latest development highlights Pakistan’s intensified efforts to counter terrorism and strengthen internal security amid evolving regional dynamics.
