Dera Murad Jamali: At least 16 people, including three police personnel, were injured after unidentified armed motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at a police mobile van in the busy main market area of Dera Murad Jamali, officials said on Thursday.
According to police, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the City Police Station near DC Chowk at Faseel Plaza in the central market of Dera Murad Jamali, the divisional headquarters of Nasirabad.
Police officials said unknown assailants riding motorcycles targeted a police patrol vehicle by throwing a hand grenade, which exploded with a powerful blast, creating panic in the crowded marketplace.
The injured were identified as Riyaz Mengal, Muhammad Hayat, Ramesh Lal, Hakim Ali, Abdul Islam, Ameer Bakhsh, Mohabbat Khan, Pathan Basham Khan, Saifullah, Abdul Samad, Muhammad Anwar, Muhammad Ayub, Manzoor Ahmed, Dali Jan, and Muhammad Akbar, along with three police officers.
All injured individuals were immediately shifted to the Teaching Hospital in Dera Murad Jamali for medical treatment. Hospital sources said four critically injured victims were later referred to Larkana for advanced medical care after receiving initial treatment.
Following the attack, heavy contingents of police and security forces rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. A search operation was launched to trace and arrest those involved in the incident.
Authorities said security in and around the city was significantly tightened in the aftermath of the explosion, with additional checkpoints established at key entry and exit points.
The Nasirabad region has witnessed several attacks in the past, with militants frequently targeting vital installations, police personnel, and other security forces operating in the area. The latest incident has once again raised concerns over the security situation in parts of Balochistan.
An investigation into the attack is underway, while no group has immediately claimed responsibility.
