Hussain Zarkoon: Two coal miners were killed after a mine collapse in the Shahrag coalfield area of Harnai district, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in Balochistan’s mining sector.

According to police sources, the tragic incident occurred at a coal mine located in the No. 5 Mountain area of Shahrag Coal Mines. The miners were engaged in routine excavation work deep inside the mine when a massive section of earth suddenly collapsed, trapping them under the debris.

Rescue teams, fellow miners, and police personnel rushed to the site immediately after receiving reports of the accident. Despite rescue efforts, both workers succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The bodies were recovered from the mine and shifted to a nearby hospital for identification and legal procedures.

Coal mine accidents continue to claim lives in Balochistan, where thousands of workers face hazardous conditions due to inadequate safety measures. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
