QUETTA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced that Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has adopted a unified strategy to intensify counterterrorism efforts following the recent security incidents in Balochistan.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Balochistan Apex Committee under the National Action Plan (NAP) in Quetta, the Prime Minister said the government would utilize all available resources to combat terrorism, strengthen national security, and maintain peace and stability across the province.
The meeting was attended by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, senior military commanders, intelligence officials, and key members of the federal and provincial governments.
Addressing the committee, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s political and military leadership had jointly reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism through coordinated action and institutional cooperation.
Security Review and Counterterrorism Operations
The Apex Committee reviewed the overall security situation in Balochistan, ongoing intelligence-based operations (IBOs), border security, intelligence coordination, and measures to strengthen law enforcement capabilities.
The Prime Minister said security forces launched immediate operations following the recent attacks, adding that 54 militants were neutralized during intelligence-led operations conducted in response to the violence.
He emphasized that counterterrorism operations would continue with full determination, stating that efforts against militant networks would remain uninterrupted while ensuring frontline security forces receive all necessary administrative and operational support.
Focus on Regional Security Challenges
During the meeting, the Prime Minister discussed broader regional security concerns, including cross-border militancy and external challenges affecting Pakistan’s internal security environment. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting national interests and preventing any attempt to destabilize the country.
According to the briefing presented during the session, the recent attacks were aimed at disrupting peace, undermining investor confidence, and affecting ongoing economic development initiatives, including strategic infrastructure projects.
Civil-Military Unity Against Terrorism
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that the federal government, the Government of Balochistan, Pakistan’s Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement institutions would continue working in close coordination to eliminate terrorism and maintain lasting peace.
He stated that every available resource would be utilized to strengthen security, protect citizens, and ensure stability throughout the province.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army, police, Frontier Corps (FC), Levies, intelligence personnel, and civilians who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism, saying the nation remains united in honoring its martyrs.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by a federal delegation comprising Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah.
