News Desk: A powerful roadside IED blast in Mastung on Tuesday left one driver dead, injured five others, and destroyed an LPG bowser and two trailers after a massive fire erupted on the N-65 National Highway, police said.
According to police officials, the explosion occurred near Ziaullah Hotel, close to the Muhammad Hasni Check Post in Mastung district. Unidentified assailants allegedly detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the roadside, targeting vehicles travelling on the highway.
The deceased was identified as Shakeel Ahmed, who died at the scene. The injured, Raja, Pidan Gul, Rehmatullah, Rehman, and Shaista Shah, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
The blast sparked a fierce fire that completely engulfed an LPG bowser and two trailers, reducing all three vehicles to ashes and causing heavy financial losses.
Police, rescue personnel, and security officials reached the scene immediately after the explosion, cordoned off the area, and shifted the victim’s body and the injured to the hospital. After legal formalities were completed, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the nature of the attack and identify those responsible. Security has also been tightened in the surrounding area as investigators collect evidence from the blast site.
