A six-day anti-polio campaign was launched in 25 districts of Balochistan to eradicate the crippling virus form the province. Over 2 million children under the age of five years would be provided polio drops during the campaign, Rashid Razzaq, the Coordinator Emergency Operation Cell (EOC) said.

8,242 teams have been formed to make the campaign a success. Strict security measures have been adopted by the Balochistan government for the security of polio workers and volunteers. In all 25 districts, elected representatives, deputy commissioners and celebrities administered polio drops while launching the anti-polio campaign.

“Currently 11 districts of Balochistan are affected by the virus”, Rashid Razzaq stated. Balochistan has so far confirmed 16 cases of the crippling virus during the current year. The campaign would remain to continue till August 22nd.
