QUETTA, July 27: The Government of Balochistan has decided to install modern artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic signals across Quetta as part of its broader plan to tackle the city’s growing traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Monday, where officials reviewed a comprehensive strategy for introducing a modern traffic management system in the provincial capital.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that AI-powered traffic signals would help regulate traffic according to real-time vehicle movement, reducing unnecessary waiting times at intersections and improving the overall flow of traffic across the city.
Chief Minister Bugti directed the relevant departments to use modern technology to streamline traffic movement and provide citizens with safer and more efficient travel facilities. He also instructed all concerned agencies to work in close coordination to ensure the successful implementation of a sustainable and technologically advanced traffic management system.
“The use of modern technology to resolve traffic issues is an important part of the Balochistan government’s reform agenda,” the chief minister said. “We will utilize all available resources to achieve this objective.”
He emphasized that improving public convenience and ensuring a safe road environment remain among the provincial government’s top priorities.
According to the chief minister, the introduction of an AI-based traffic management system will significantly reduce travel time, improve commuting facilities, strengthen traffic discipline, and enhance transparency and effective monitoring on the city’s roads.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to urban development, Bugti said Quetta’s transformation into a modern city equipped with smart public services is a key priority. He added that technology-driven governance would help create a safer, more organized, and reliable transportation network for residents.
The proposed AI-powered traffic signal system is expected to play a major role in easing congestion at major intersections while supporting Quetta’s long-term urban infrastructure modernization efforts.
