Islamabad: Pakistan has granted a temporary extension to nearly 16,000 Afghan refugees, including women, children, and elderly individuals, on humanitarian grounds while continuing its nationwide repatriation campaign under the One Document Regime (ODR).
Officials said the extension was approved to facilitate vulnerable groups and ensure an orderly return process. The beneficiaries include families requiring additional time before repatriation.
Meanwhile, authorities stated that the repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals is continuing through 16 transit centres established across the country. According to official figures, nearly 89,000 Afghan nationals have so far returned to Afghanistan via the Torkham border crossing as part of the ongoing operation.
The government reiterated that the repatriation campaign is being implemented in phases in accordance with Pakistan’s immigration laws, emphasizing that foreign nationals must possess valid travel documents to remain in the country.
Officials also urged the public to avoid relying on unverified reports circulating on social media regarding the repatriation process and instead seek information from official government sources.
